By encouraging young people to tap into their feelings, trust their intuition and believe their inner voice, Joan empowers children to think for themselves and identify danger early. What is special about Joan's book is that she brings another dimension to the stranger danger message.

In the first of the series, the author Joan Derrick imbues Joshua with a 'soul buddy', or intuitive voice, which warns him of impending danger. Joshua and Stranger Danger is a wonderfully fresh and mature approach to keeping our children safe. He asks Joshua to go with him to visit his mum. Before he can regain the safety of the schoolyard, Joshua is stopped by a policeman who tells him his mum is in hospital, after having an accident. Joshua finds himself in a dangerous situation at school as he impulsively runs onto the footpath to wave goodbye to a friend.
